There has been widespread publicity for the new night service between Bexhill and Hastings (and beyond) on the number 98 bus route. This will certainly be a huge relief to people out and about in the evenings. One Bexhill resident gleefully commented with: “Watch out Hastings! I’ll be coming out more now with my bestie.”

As Deputy Leader of Rother Council, Christine Bayliss points out, part of the campaign for late night buses was to improve evening access to local business and to the De La Warr Pavilion for Bexhill and Hastings residents who don’t own a car.

But the changes don’t end there for residents of Hastings, as many of the routes have been upgraded with improved bus frequency, extended routes, evening services and improved Sunday timetables (see link below).

All these improvements, which were implemented last month, were made possible thanks to East Sussex County Council’s successful bid for UK Government funding. More good news for bus users started back in April when Stagecoach and East Sussex County Council got together to offer bus users in East Sussex better value fares. All single fares are capped at just £2 until 31 October 2023 under the government’s Help for Households scheme. East Sussex DayRider tickets have now become multi-operator and can be used on unlimited travel on any Stagecoach Compass, Brighton & Hove and Metrobus service within East Sussex as well as for journeys that begin in East Sussex.

And for those families with children a reminder of offers on Stagecoach buses: as many as four young people up to 18 can travel free with just one adult paying; unaccompanied children up to 18 can travel for just £1 with a U19 single ticket from 6pm Monday to Friday and at weekends and during school holidays.
