Birth of Living Streets
Do you want to improve the pedestrian experience in Hastings? Are you concerned about speeding cars, the lack of zebra crossings or just want to make our streets more accessible and welcoming for everyone so we all feel encouraged to walk more? Were you inspired by Hastings’ first Car Free Day and fancy trying out having a play street in your neighbourhood for a few hours?
Living Streets is the UK charity for everyday walking with the ambition to get people of all generations to enjoy the benefits that this simple act brings. Their mission is to achieve a better walking environment and inspire people to walk more.
The first meeting of a local Living Streets group will be held on 25th January at 10.30am-12.30pm at the Salvation Army Hall, St Andrews Square, Hastings TN34 1SP. All are welcome to come and share their views over tea and cake.
This first meeting will identify everyone’s key concerns and set some priorities for campaigning. A local Living Streets group might bring together all the various groups in Hastings who are already campaigning on related themes, e.g. Hastings Ramblers, Hastings Greenway Group as well as the Hastings branches of Community Speedwatch and Transition Town. By coming together to campaign with the support of a national charity, we hope we can make our voice louder.
