Best Foot Forward: Walk With Us
Placemaking social action organisation MSL have unleashed a series of walks and talks taking place between 30 May and 1 June

First up is a Rye Harbour walk and talk on Saturday, 31 May that welcomes people of all walking abilities and fitness levels. MSL describes it as “the perfect event for wheelchair or mobility scooter users, users of walking frames and those lovers of the great outdoors looking for a slower-paced appreciation of nature”.
The event takes in the Rye Harbour Nature Reserve and starts at the Discovery Centre with coffee and cake or a savoury snack, and a brief introduction to the Nature Reserve’s important conservation work.
Then, equipped with bird and wildflower spotter sheets, the group will set out into the Nature Reserve, aiming for a short loop of approximately two miles, with the option of a truncated route for those looking for something less onerous. On the way, the group will have the chance to stop at an accessible bird hide for a close-up view of the many bird species that make their home in these rare salt marsh and saline lagoon habitats. Other highlights include stop-offs at the picturesque red roofed hut, a wartime pillbox and one of the listening posts on the poetry trail to hear how nature has inspired the Rye Harbour Writers Group.A spokesperson for MSL commented that this “is a brilliantly accessible destination with accessible toilets at the car park and in the Discovery Centre, as well as smooth, level pathways around the reserve. This event isn’t about chalking up the miles – it’s all about taking our time to absorb the beauty of the exceptional coastal and wetland location with its wealth of wildlife and plant species.”
