Christ Church, in Silchester Road, celebrated its 150th birthday last week, with an open weekend programme of music, verse, tours, services and family activities to mark this very special occasion. The church, established by Lady St John as a site where everyone could worship for free during a period when pew rates were widely charged, was built by celebrated architect Arthur Blomfield. It is Grade II* listed by Historic England, and continues to offer a space for worship, reflection and community, whilst also developing a growing reputation as a venue for hosting musical events, including the regular concert series organised by acclaimed musician and local resident, Max Baillie.
