Tell the council how housing affects your life
Now you might not know Hastings Housing Alliance (HHA), but there’s a fair chance you will know this town is in a housing crisis. Even if you personally aren’t suffering its effects, the council’s finances are being crippled by an increasing demand for temporary accommodation – and specifically by the costs unscrupulous landlords charge to provide it.
Fret not however! Well, fret some. Alright, worry slightly less than you were previously worrying. Hastings Housing Alliance, formed late last year, is bringing together the council, community housing providers and homelessness charities to paint a clearer picture of the housing crisis and then collectively start to solve it.
As a first step to making a more homely Hastings, they need your comments, your thoughts, your experiences. They need to know what’s going on with your housing situation, so they can start the good work of improving it. “Rent increases, poor quality or unsafe living conditions, mortgage increases and homelessness. Many of us are finding housing the biggest challenge in our lives, and without doubt it’s the biggest local issue in Hastings and St Leonards. The impact of these stresses can be severe, leaving people feeling insecure, anxious or worthless. A safe, warm and secure home is a basic entitlement,” HHA says.
