Support for families living in temporary accommodation
Families with children currently living in temporary accommodation in Hastings are set to receive a financial boost thanks to a government grant of over £55,000.
Hastings Borough Council has confirmed it will distribute the one-off funding to support eligible households. Families must be residing in temporary accommodation arranged by the council and be in receipt of Universal Credit as of 30 January 2026.
The money will be used to provide supermarket vouchers for children and young people aged from birth up to 16 years old. In addition to help with food costs, families with school-aged children between four and 16 years old will also qualify for separate vouchers to put towards school uniforms.
The council’s housing team has already begun contacting all eligible families directly to explain how they can access and receive their vouchers.
Crucially, the council has made it clear that this support will not be available to families who are placed into temporary accommodation after 30 January this year.
