Neighbourhood Health Boost

Hastings and Rother has been selected as one of 43 areas nationwide to launch a new Neighbourhood Health programme. The initiative has been designed to tackle health inequalities and to shift the focus of care away from hospitals and directly into the community.

The new model will see the creation of integrated neighbourhood teams, bringing together a wide range of health and care professionals.

The programme will see health teams work together to provide tailored, end-to-end care designed to meet the specific needs of patients. The primary goal is to reduce unnecessary hospital visits, prevent serious complications, and streamline access to services, particularly for those managing long-term conditions like diabetes, high blood pressure, arthritis and epilepsy.

The inclusion of Hastings and Rother in the roll out of the programme was because the area has some of the lowest life expectancies in England, whilst residents also face some of the longest waits to access vital services.

The government has allocated £10 million to the September launch of the first phase of the programme with the ambition to scale up more services over the course of the next year.

Know Your Rights

Unite the Union held a training session last Wednesday (26 September) to explain to workers about their legal rights at work and on how trade unions can support those in the workplace.

Unite said there are many workplaces in Hastings where people are being exploited or badly treated and where employers cut corners and put themselves or other people at risk. The training session detailed aspects of employment law and how employers must ensure workers’ physical and mental health is protected, and that staff are always kept safe whilst at work.
