Southern Water held another of its drop-in events at the Stade Hall last Thursday (5 September) to reassure local people about the ongoing works in the Hastings area to improve water supply and its wastewater treatment.

Tim Mcmahon, the Managing Director for Water at Southern Water, said everyone at the company was aware of the need to improve its performance to help customers and the local community. This is the reason why there are plans to invest £41.4 million at the Bexhill and Hastings Wastewater Treatment Works from 2025–2030.

Roger Williams, a Governance Manager at Southern Water, confirmed that the company would soon complete its mapping of all water connection pipes within the Hastings area, and this information would be made available to the public in November.

Southern Water also gave more details of its £1 million goodwill fund to support local businesses and community groups in the Hastings and St Leonards area following the weather-related flooding and loss of water supply incidents. The company says it is actively encouraging applications for a share of the fund from community groups and projects, and from the organisers of local events and festivals. The beneficiaries so far include: the Old Town Carnival Week, Hasting Pride and Hastings Fat Tuesday 2025. Some £380,000 has already been allocated from the goodwill fund to support local businesses.
