APROPOS OF NOTHING

FELICITY STEPHEN

save

the great Atlas cedar

I walk past most days

and Mr & Mrs Magpie

hopping beneath

a pooling of silvery sea

a murmuration at pier end

a midwinter sun on my face

(such a treat)

the purr of a marmalade

visiting cat

that snuggles on me

the taste

of a Middle Eastern sweet

the laughter in class

at a teacher being daft

(that is me)

the drape of a willow

the sight of a cormorant

and then of its mate

of a sunset

that’s starting now later

so safe to walk home

a nice cup of tea

a text from a friend

that raises a smile

or a great laugh out loud

a walk or a run with a dog

on the beach

the scent of a perfume

a gift unexpected

a good restful sleep.

Apropos of nothing

but all of the above

and for that, I say “thank you”.

VERDIGRIS WINGS

JEMIA DE BLONDEVILLE

Green butterflies

Oft times jaded

Camouflaged

Invisible

Within the trees

Chameleon

Fairy-like creatures

Lost in translation

Verdigris wings

Olive body

With emerald eyes

Hidden

Within the beautiful tapestry

Of the forgotten forests

Wings

Hanging on a sweet zephyr

The silent music

Of a stringless aeolian

Light as down feathers

Caught within

A psithurism

Soft

As a gentle kiss

And as arid

As the silken sun

Unspun
