Trash Cannes 5-Day Film Competition

This is a unique opportunity to take part in the annual Trash Cannes Film Challenge and Coastal Currents Arts Festival during September. The challenge is to make a short film on a given subject in just five days. Your film will be entered for the competition screening at The Printworks, Hastings on 20 September with awards and prizes for best film, best actor, best cinematography and audience choice amongst other categories.
Originally known as ‘The Hastings 5-Day Film Challenge’, this event has been a staple in the Hastings art scene for over twenty years. Twelve years ago, it was revitalised by Trash Cannes, a collective dedicated to promoting events that have a DIY ethos in the Hastings area. Today, it stands as one of the highlights of the local calendar, attracting filmmakers ranging from complete novices to seasoned professionals. The challenge provides a unique opportunity to unleash your creativity and discover what you can accomplish in just five days.
You pick a title, a genre and a prop out of a hat, then you have five days to make a three minute film on that subject. Online applications will receive a random selection. If you’re new to film making, we can help you get started, and we especially encourage young film makers. Any format can be used, from mobile phones to professional equipment, and free editing software is widely available. It’s never been easier to make a film your way.
