You may have wondered at the inspiration behind our long-running, consistently whimsical comic strip and about its creator. The real Lola and Bill are gratified to appear in these august pages.

The real Duncan Reekie is a Ph.D., writer and filmmaker, and lives here in St Leonards. Of his life, he writes that his favourite smell is the city after rain. His dream is that one day he’ll be out walking the dog and someone will say: “What’s your dog’s name?” and he’ll say: “Lola”, and they’ll say: “Oh … like the dog in Lola and Bill …” and he’ll say: “she is the dog in Lola and Bill!”

We hope you have enjoyed reading this article. The future of our volunteer led, non-profit publication would be far more secure with the aid of a small donation. You can also support local journalism by becoming a friend of HIP. It only takes a minute and we would be very grateful.
