Jason Michael Gallery was being developed prior to the Covid-19 virus outbreak but, given the restrictions that we all face, its owner – the eponymous Jason Michael – decided to go online rather than in-venue so that prospective buyers could still comfortably acquire art that they enjoy. Artwork can be found online, then viewed by appointment at Jason’s Fairlight home, which is rather like a gallery itself.

The collection on offer extends to paintings, prints, ceramics and sculpture, reflecting an interest in modern British, contemporary and abstract work. Some of the art is from Jason’s private collection and almost all of the artists he is showcasing are Sussex locals. They include: Tony Bennett, Fred Cuming, Tracy Nors, Annabel Faraday, Barry Wells, and Martin Bradshaw.

Firle Beacon by Martin Bradshaw

Jason made the move from London 22 years ago, originally to Winchelsea and then to Fairlight. He trained as a counsellor and a clinical supervisor and has run a private counselling practice in Fairlight for the last 18 years. He also supervises counsellors for Macmillan at Eastbourne Hospital, St Michaels Hospice and The Sara Lee Trust whilst providing training to various organisations. Whilst he has a speciality in Alcohol and Addiction Counselling, he also provides general counselling to individuals and couples.

Jason says: β€œI have always had an interest in art and since my move to East Sussex I have collected work by mainly local artists. It is important for me to have a creative outlet when working so intensely, and for the last couple of years I have wanted to open a gallery. Given the economic uncertainty first with Brexit and now Covid-19, I decided that the best step forward would be to launch my online gallery.”

β€œThe art online can be viewed by appointment, in situ, at my home in Fairlight which already resembles a gallery I’ve been told!”

β€œI have chosen to showcase artists whom I have had a previous connection with prior to the gallery opening and it is essential for me when buying art that I have a personal connection to an artist. Having said that, new artists are welcome to contact me directly so that I can consider including them in the gallery.”
