Locally Sourced Jazz Album
Local multi-talented musician, artist and photographer Greg Heath has produced (and in the case of one tune, co-written) a fine album of unashamedly nostalgic jazz rock, Point Nemo, by the Jonas Larsson band, of which Heath is also a member. Think Nucleus, Crusaders, Back Door – that time when people took new joy in the sound of sax and synth over a solid bass/drum beat. “My aim is always to combine solid bass lines and steady drum grooves with free, improvised jazz soloing,” he tells me.

Jonas Larsson
This is the first of two albums that Jonas Larsson releases this year, the second, Airborne, due in April. Born in Sweden but living in England, he, like saxophonist Heath, is creative in several directions. The CD cover design is his (photos by Heath) and in his own (online) words he is also a visual artist, and is a published author. He has worked as a session musician for many years, sharing the stage with (as he puts it) “famous and unfamous people”.
The Jonas Larsson Band are: Jonas Larsson (band/ensemble/orchestra/guitar), Gregory Heath (tenor), William South (keyboards), Gordon Rytmeister (drums), Andrew Atwill (bass), Tony Azzopardi (perc), and Silas Maitland (bass). The album, Point Nemo, is available from Amazon and all good CD stores and outlets.
