Launch of a New Zine at Barnaby’s

Barnazine is the first edition of a new magazine that features local and regional writers who meet regularly at Barnaby’s Lounge. It is also a companion piece to artist Susie Warren’s installation The Fireplace. This montage is a celebration of some of Barnaby’s many musicians, artists, writers and performers, brilliantly incorporated into the fireplace area in Barnaby’s upstairs lounge. As Susie describes it:
Barnazine – the Launch
“This montaged installation includes just a handful of Barnaby’s many musicians, artists, writers, and performers. They are inserted into the tableau of famous people depicted in The Beatles Sergeant Pepper’s album cover, which links creative thinkers and practitioners across eras. The piece is also a personal tribute to the artists Peter Blake and Jann Haworth who created the iconic album cover design in 1967, using photography and diorama installation.
“My installation was made using old cardboard boxes, a cheap A4 printer, printing inks, standard printing paper, tape, and PVA glue. The imperfections are a significant element of this traditional montage process. It is a nod to Punk-based zines of the 1970s and 80s, and further back to the explorations of mass media and popular culture by Pop Artists in the 1950s and 60s.”
