Jerry Bergonzi is becoming a regular fixture at Jazz Hastings. After two triumphant appearances in the last two years, this legendary American tenorist is back by popular demand. Bergonzi gained worldwide recognition while playing with the Dave Brubeck Quartet. His complex, assertive saxophone improvisations brought a contemporary element into Brubeck’s established style.

Between 1973 and 1981, Bergonzi recorded nine albums with Brubeck. He has also performed and recorded with other major stars, among them Bill Evans, Paul Desmond, Dave Holland, Gerry Mulligan, Jack DeJohnette, and Roy Haynes.

He is renowned for his innovation, mastery, and integrity. In a long series of great reviews, he is credited for relentless drive, inner fire, awesome technique, elastic lyricism, rich resonance, and musical vision.

Bergonzi will be appearing, as last year, with Mark Hodgson on bass and Stephen Keogh on drums. Multi-talented, award-winning pianist Will Barry will feature on piano. Don’t miss this: 6 March at Jazz Hastings, EHSAA, The Stade, 8.30pm.
