Get Yourself a Gun – Alabama 3 Come to St Leonards
Alabama 3 will bring their celebrated acoustic show to St Leonard’s Church, St Leonards-on-Sea, on Saturday 14 November 2026, for a rare intimate performance in one of the town’s most distinctive settings. No vast field. No distant stage. Just the songs, the voices and one extraordinary room.
Formed in Brixton in the mid-1990s, Alabama 3 created a sound that remains almost impossible to categorise: country and blues colliding with gospel, dub, electronica, spoken-word evangelism and the after-hours pulse of acid house.
It shouldn’t really have worked. It did.
Their landmark 1997 debut album, Exile on Coldharbour Lane, established Alabama 3 as genuine British originals. Its opening track, ‘Woke Up This Morning’, subsequently travelled around the world after becoming the opening theme to HBO’s The Sopranos. Since then, across almost three decades of records, touring and festival appearances, Alabama 3 have maintained one of British music’s most singular identities, operating somewhere between a rock ’n’ roll band, electronic collective, gospel congregation and late-night Brixton club.
The band have become fixtures of Britain’s festival culture, taking their music from clubs and theatres to major outdoor stages while retaining the outsider spirit on which Alabama 3 was founded.
FROM FESTIVAL FIELD TO CHURCH
St Leonards offers something very different. Presented as Alabama 3 Acoustic, the performance strips away the scale of the festival environment and brings the audience considerably closer to the songs themselves.
Joining Alabama 3 will be Lol Hammond of Drum Club, playing a DJ set. Hammond emerged from the early-1990s British electronic underground as one half of Drum Club, part of a generation that blurred the boundaries between psychedelia, bands, DJs, electronic experimentation and the rapidly evolving UK dancefloor. His appearance adds another thread of British alternative music culture to a night already sitting somewhere outside the conventional gig format.
