Folk at Fairlight Cove
STEVE GREEN
Last year saw two revival folk evenings at the Cove in Fairlight, commemorating the Hayloft Folk Club during the 70s and 80s. We brought back two original performers, Martin Wyndham-Read and Paul Downs, and the evenings were a great success. Building on this success, we have brought back another original local performer, fiddle player Garry Blakely, who will be playing with guitarist Bear Lucas. They both can be seen regularly around Hastings and Garry is also a permanent member of Feast of Fiddles.

Blakeley is a virtuoso, performed at the original Hayloft Folk Club with a number of house bands, and in the group Brian Boru and Burgess & Blakeley. On the Irish pub circuit for many years with his great mate Pete Fyfe in the popular duo Band of Two, more recently he has worked with his son Edd. Garry is also a full time member of the celebrated supergroup Feast of Fiddles.
He will join up with his good friend Bear Lucas, an exceptional guitarist and singer. Bear’s influences include the likes of Rory Gallagher, Andy Summers and John Martyn.Together they produce an eclectic range of songs and sounds.
They are stylish, exciting and highly entertaining. Expect a range of well known songs and plenty of lively tunes.
Garry Blakely and Bear Lucas play at The Cove, Fairlight, on Sunday 11 May at 6 pm. thecovefairlight.co.uk/events/
