TINA MORRIS

After the privilege of producing this festival for 15 years, one thing has become abundantly clear: this area is full of extraordinary people making extraordinary work. Every year, Coastal Currents offers a glimpse into that creativity, bringing together artists, musicians, performers, writers, makers, producers, organisers, volunteers and audiences from across the area. Some are established, some are just starting out, but all play a part in shaping the rich diversity of the festival.

This year feels particularly significant. As conversations about the future of our town gather pace, I hope culture continues to be central to that story. Creativity helps us understand where we are, who we are and what kind of place we want to be. It helps us solve problems, innovate, delight, surprise, play and connect. Whether through clay, paint, dance, sculpture, performance or poetry, there are endless ways we express our love for this place and share what matters to us.

For one month, we have a shared date in the diary – a reason to come together. To show our work, support one another, discover something new and celebrate the extraordinary creativity that exists here. Fifteen years on, I am still incredibly proud of what we achieve together as a community.

We’re delighted to have Arts Council England and Hastings Borough Council support this year for our young people and early-career artist programmes, helping us create opportunities for the next generation of creative talent. The rest, as ever, is home-grown. Whether you’re just starting out or have been doing this for decades, whether your work entertains, challenges, inspires or simply brings joy, it belongs here.
