All Us Women

All Us Women is an arts and wellbeing project exploring violence against women. During 2024 we worked with 51 women, supporting them in producing textile artworks that were later exhibited at De La Warr Pavilion, Bexhill, and Flowerfield Arts Centre, Northern Ireland.
A series of sessions combining textile work and photography are set to take place during 2025. The space created in the sessions allows for the exploration of the things that promote our healing: sitting together in community, connecting through our stories, gaining strength from the natural world, reclaiming our inner strength, reframing our narratives, and taking back our power.
So far: Local women were invited to take part in taster sessions. These one-off workshops provided an opportunity for women to sample creative activity, ask questions, and help us consult with the groups we hope to engage with. Two of these consultation sessions have been held, one with women from Hastings and St Leonards, and one with women from a support group based in Eastbourne.
The next step: We aim to offer 6-8 sessions combining textile work and photography. The textile sessions will be led by artist Janey Moffatt. In these, women can explore the theme, and express themselves using items of clothing with machine embroidery and heat press techniques. The photography sessions will be an opportunity to record parts of our everyday life and to define our identity. These sessions will be led by photographer Veronique Leplat.
The final part of the project is for Veronique to take a series of professional portraits of the participants wearing the pieces of art they will have produced. This will give an opportunity for the participants to further express and present themselves. The project will culminate in an exhibition where the pieces will be exhibited along with the photographic portraits.
Visitors will be able to reflect on the issue of Violence Against Women within our community. How can we all play a role in making “shame swap sides”?
