Mental Health Help Hastings
By Andrew O’Leary
After struggling with mental health consistantly for several years I have noticed a lack in services and
support available. Therefore I’m setting up a community support group for people with mental health problems in the local area. Our aim is to fill the void where other services maybe lacking, however we also want to work with existing services to provide a better service overall.
We help out where we can with our online support group on facebook ‘Mental Health Help Hastings’. I also have an office on Norman Road where I offer general mental health advice based on my own experiences for those who are stuck for answers. There is help out there, sometimes it’s just a case of directing people to the right services.
The office is kept afloat by my own benefits, tombolas and the odd donation from the community. I would
like to take this opportunity to thank all the shopkeepers of Hastings and St Leonards who have donated towards the tombola prizes. We hope to secure funding and be fully functional in the new year so we can help those in great need of support.
I am also arranging regular open meetings once a month inviting the public, the council, service providers and professionals to network and discuss how we can work together as a community to provide a better service for those suffering from mental health issues. We need to be communicating, discussing and informing each other. Meeting location will be confirmed ASAP. Keep an eye on the Facebook group ‘Mental Health Help Hastings’.
We hope you have enjoyed reading this article. The future of our volunteer led, non-profit publication would be far more secure with the aid of a small donation. You can also support local journalism by becoming a friend of HIP. It only takes a minute and we would be very grateful.
