Victims and survivors of domestic abuse are being asked to share their experiences of Family Court proceedings in Sussex, highlighting what works well, the challenges they face and what could be improved. Survey feedback will be shared with the Sussex Family Justice Board to identify local improvements across the family justice system.

Family courts deal with matters including arrangements for children, separation and divorce, adoption and child protection. West and East Sussex County Councils and Brighton and Hove City Council support victims and survivors of domestic abuse and will use the feedback to improve processes directly affecting their journey through the family courts.

Gemma Taylor KC and Kieran Lyons, Co-Chairs of the Sussex Family Justice Board, said the board was: “committed to improving the experiences of children and victim-survivors of domestic abuse involved in family court proceedings.

“Listening to people with lived experience is essential to understanding what works, where improvements are needed and how to make the family justice system safer, more responsive and trauma-informed. We encourage anyone with experience of the family justice system to take part in this important survey.”

Anyone aged 18 or over who has experienced domestic abuse and been involved in family court proceedings in Sussex is encouraged to take part.

The survey runs from Monday, October 12 to Sunday, January 17, 2027, and takes 20 to 30 minutes. Participants can choose how much information they share, return later if they register for a Your Voice account, or stop at any time.
