Aided by Hastings Council, the Fisheries Local Action Group has gained grants of £800,000 from the EU’s Maritime Fisheries Fund– and there’s still time to bid for more before Brexit.

The main spending priority is to promote local, sustainably caught fish. Other projects include:

Funds for Hastings Fishermen’s Protection Society to improve boat’s beach access:

New bespoke ice flakers for Hastings fish market; (joint funding with the Foreshore Trust);
An ‘Aspiring Chef’s Academy’ offering long-term courses in fish cookery and the industry for secondary school students;
Health and safety improve-ments to boats.
