Environmental Crime Reduction
Hastings Borough Council’s community safety team and waste services have tackled a burglary and environmental crime hot spot in Ore.
Colin Fitzgerald, lead councillor for the environment, said: “A long alley behind properties in Grove Road and Winchelsea Road … has been much complained about by residents. Waste services has spent over £10,000 clearing up.
“The alley is privately owned and not a direct council responsibility, but a wider community safety one. Two gates have been installed to reduce the risk of burglary and deter fly-tippers. Keys have been given to all adjacent properties.”
The Community payback team cleared the alley of several skip loads of rubbish. Ore councillor Andrew Battley was directly involved in the organisation and management of the initiative. If successful, this approach will be used elsewhere in the town.
