Fracture Patterns, their latest commission, is a live collaboration between UK artist duo Semiconductor (Ruth Jarman and Joe Gerhardt) and New York musician and producer Eartheater (Alexandra Drewchin).

This original plan suggested by the Outlands Network combines large-scale multi-channel video works by Semiconductor with a new live soundtrack and performance by Eartheater, fusing both into a compelling theatrical production.

Eartheater explores experimental pop and fantasy combining her genre-breaking musical production with a singular visual aesthetic. Music and style magazine the Fader says of her: “Eartheater pokes critically and poetically at societal systems, social expectations, and sonic conventions.”

Semiconductor, in their own words, “make visually and intellectually engaging artworks which explore the material nature of our world and how we experience it through the lens of science and technology, questioning how these devices mediate our experiences.”

Together, these three artists invite audiences into the noise field, as they explore the collision and collusion of their respective practices. 

Semiconductor and Eartheater will be joined by supporting act Olivia Louvel, whose music has been described as “minimal, weird and wonderful electronica with a human breath.”

Alexandra Drewchin A.K.A Eartheater will also be holding a free workshop “Beyond the Fray”, before the show. Drawing upon her unique vocal style she will guide participants through contrasting vocal spaces, experimenting with scale, range and tone to explore the higher and lower ends of your vocal spectrum individually and as a group. The workshop will be an exploratory, playful, experience dispelling traditional ideas of what a choir is and what a voice ‘should’ sound like. The outcome of the workshop will be fused into the evening performance of Semiconductor’s film Black Rain with music by Eartheater and vocals by participants – potentially you! No experience is necessary. Just come with an open mind and an adventurous spirit. Participants gain free entry to the Fracture Patterns event.
