Many entrepreneurs run their businesses through limited companies. The Companies House register holds data for more than 4.2 million companies. They have seen the number of young directors (those aged 16-24) grow by 35% over the last 5 years, from 87,477 in 2014 to 117,810 as of July this year.

With so many young people already using companies, Companies House felt the need to encourage more young people to engage in entrepreneurial behaviour. In partnership with the Great British Entrepreneurship Awards they launched a new campaign on World Entrepreneurs’ Day. The campaign, labelled #GetBizzy, intends to help inspire more 16-24 year olds to become the next generation of entrepreneurs. The intention is to make sure that any budding businesspeople have the tools and resources available to them to move forward with their ideas.

Companies House chief executive and the Registrar of Companies in England and Wales, Louise Smyth, said “As an organisation, we aim to support the government’s Industrial Strategy by driving confidence in the UK economy. It’s incredibly important, therefore, to recognise both the work of young entrepreneurs and the positive contribution they are making to the UK’s business environment.”

Whilst the hashtag will appear across a range of platforms, the main thrust of their campaign is going to be on the Companies House blog. (companieshouse.blog.gov.uk/). Here they intend to post a range of information in the coming months. Some posts will simply explain their services so new users can make the best of them. There will also be guest posts from organisations supporting young entrepreneurs and success stories from across the UK. If you want to find out more, head on over to the blog or look out for the #GetBizzy tag on other social media.
