T20 Defeat for Priory
Hastings & St Leonards Priory were eliminated from the Sussex T20 Cup last Sunday when they were beaten at the Preston Park Velodrome ground by St Peters Brighton. The margin of four wickets and two overs suggests a tight contest, but the Hastings side’s score of 114 for 9 – with only four boundaries scored through the whole innings – never looked defensible despite some tight spin bowling by Dilshan De Soysa and Adam Page.
Five league games remain in the Sussex League. After a heavy defeat by Three Bridges on 24th July and abandonment of last Saturday’s game against Preston Nomads because of rain, confirmation of Priory’s relegation back to Division 2 is surely only a matter of time. Next week, however, the under-13s play five matches on consecutive days in the Sussex Junior Cricket Festival: perhaps it’s time to look to the future.
