IN RESPONSE TO ‘Council scoops award for town’s ‘outstanding’ parks’ from issue 107 available here

In your 10th August issue, Bernard McGinley questions whether Hastings Country Park should have a Green Flag award given the landslip in Ecclesbourne Glen, the closure of the coastal footpath and secrecy and inaction by the Council.  It’s a good question. We’ve put in huge efforts over the Rocklands saga. When the planning committee refused the new building overlooking Ecclesbourne Glen following our petition, we thought we were succeeding. Sadly, that was not the final outcome. We’ve had more success opposing development on the edges of the park and getting double yellow lines on Barley Lane. The Friends are the only people to have commented on a planning application for Mill Farm. Now we’re concerned about the future of the coastal path and the much delayed new visitor centre. If you want to protect the park, join the Friends of the Country Park Nature Reserve and get involved.
