Some might say that International Men’s Day is every day. However, when it officially occurs on 19th November, it’s a useful reminder that feminist thought can help to challenge gender stereotypes which men as well as women continue to face in the 21st century.

With the rise of Trump in the USA, Putin in Russia and Erdoğan in Turkey, we might ask why we must continue to labour under persistently aggressive male role models? What is behind this resurgence of the ‘strong man’ in world politics? And when will a men’s liberation movement (not just LGBT, Trans and Feminist communities) rise up successfully to challenge these figures of toxic masculinity?
