A survey of 3,700 subscribers to Which? Magazine, asked to rate the beach, attractions, seafront and scenery of 105 seaside towns and villages in the UK, has placed St Mawes in Cornwall at the top of its destination list for a UK holiday with an 85% rating. The survey was conducted before the coronavirus outbreak, though only released last week.

Hastings came in 83rd with only 61% approval, scoring low marks for beach quality, “peace and quiet” and “value for money”. However, the consumer tastes of Which? readers may be taken with a squiff of salt air. The only destination on the south coast that makes the top 20 is Dungeness Beach, rated highly for scenery (the power station, presumably) and “peace and quiet”.
