A community compost scheme is coming to St Leonards in July.

Partly inspired by the already successful Brighton & Hove Food Partnership the initiative will shortly open a pilot project at St Johns church in Pevensey Road.

The idea is to enable residents – particularly those in flats – to collect kitchen waste, a valuable that might otherwise go to landfill. Small bins will be provided to take it to a local composting facility and the compost will be given away to community gardens and scheme members.

Currently operating as part of Transition Town Hastings, a non-profit organisation supporting sustainability initiatives, the organisors hope to soon add further drop-off sites and also involve local schools.
