Sunday April 8th was Hastings Beatles Day, our annual celebration of The Beatles music. This year was the nineteenth event, and was themed around the fiftieth anniversary of ‘the White Album’. The event is run to raise monies for MacMillan Cancer Support.

Also in celebration, this year, there is an LP-sized ‘cardback’ collection of Beatles Day photographs. This is retailing at £10, and all the proceeds are in aid of ‘We are MacMillan Cancer Support’.

The pictures collected are by eight photographers: Frank Cooper, Colin Dengate, Ann & Phil Gill, Nastassja Kaschevsky, Peter Mould, Chris Parker, and John Powell. All are in full colour, and, naturally, feature many local performers – examples include Maid of Ace, Pete Brown, Claire Hamill, Alice Turner (featured on the poster advertising the book!), Doc Savage and many more: and not forgetting two shots of HIP’s very own Colin Gibson. The photos are drawn from some of the concerts run since 2000. The event has taken place in the ballroom of the old Hastings Pier, Pissaro’s, the Marina Pavilion, and more recently at the White Rock Theatre.

By 2017 more than £250,000 had been raised, and hopefully this year has been great too. The book will, with luck, also do its bit for the charity! Available from Bookbuster and many other outlets.
