Hastings singer-songwriter Marie White has been chosen to support pop-rock band Keane on their September/October 2019 tour.

The 23-year-old is due to tour with the band around England and Ireland, including two nights at the London Royal Albert Hall. White announced the news on social media commenting: “I CANNOT COPE, SOMEBODY SEND HELP IMMEDIATELY”.

This is the third set of big news for the soulful songwriter this year, as she won Glastonbury Festival’s Emerging Talent Competition in April and signed a four-album record deal with Decca Records in July.

White told HIP she will be performing a set of original songs on the tour, some of which will be familiar to locals that have seen her perform over the last few years in Hastings. White will also be performing some new unreleased material.

White first supported Keane, who are originally from Battle, at Battle Festival in 2018 and it seems Keane want to keep things local. In the Facebook announcement, the band said White is “a superb songwriter with an incredible voice” and “a lovely person”.

White posted a heartfelt response to the news on Instagram, acknowledging this is her first tour: “Keane have given me the opportunity to complete the musical version of an apprenticeship, which is no different to anybody else learning their trade”.

You can listen to her most recent single I Want to Know You on Spotify, Apple Music and YouTube. You are also likely catch her at her local spot, Porter’s Wine Bar, when she gets back, but keep an eye on @MarieWhiteMusic (Instagram and Twitter) for updates.

Keane’s tour starts at the Hague in the Netherlands tomorrow (Saturday). It includes a gig at the De La Warr Pavilion, Bexhill on Friday 20th September.
