New poetry from Brian Docherty

Local poet Brian Docherty, sometimes known as The Bard of St Leonards, has a brand new collection published by Dempsey & Windle. Docherty has had several books of his poetry published over the years, both here and in the US. He has also published a collection with all profits going to St Michael’s Hospice.

The View From The Villa Delirium comprises 80pp of poems mostly written in Hastings (plus a few written in Austin, Texas, in Eastbourne, and at the Torbay Poetry Festival) between February 2017 and July 2019. A lot of the poems are locally specific, and quite personal to the author, but there is still some politics and social comment, and also some Americana, with several being set in San Francisco.

Brian tells HIP “…and the mermaids are in there as well. They just showed up one day and invited themselves in. Because of the timeline, there are no Covid or Lockdown poems but these will feature in my next book, assuming there is one.”

The View From The Villa Delirium, along with other works by Docherty, is available from Bookbuster, The Bookkeeper, Printed Matter, The Hastings Bookshop and Hare & Hawthorne. Brian asks that you support our local independent bookshops but if you are reading this from afar you can buy it from:
