Hastings & St Leonards Big ADVENTure
Funded by HBC and Good Stuff in St Leonards, Hastings & St Leonards Big ADVENTure is a ‘living advent calendar’ that aims to bring people from local communities together in the run-up to Christmas.
Every day from the 1st – 24th December a new piece of creative work will be unveiled in Hastings or St Leonards. There will be window displays, 2D and 3D artworks, soundscapes and interactive events at different venues such as shops, galleries and public spaces. After its unveiling, each artwork will be on display for the rest of the month so that an art trail is created through Hastings and St Leonards.
Organiser, Hattie Spice, is a set designer and art director and was keen to tap into the local artistic talent to lift people’s spirits in December. “We wanted to bring some joy in this horrible year,” she says, and to harness the creativity of the town which is “full of amazing people!” All 24 slots are allocated – those involved in creating and displaying pieces include local primary school children as well as a range of established artists such as Leigh Dyer and Peter Quinnell.
How does it work? Sign up via Facebook and Instagram and you will receive information each day about the next day’s location. On the day itself, you are invited to “find it, enjoy it, photograph it and share it”. There will also be a photo of the piece or event online. We can reveal that the first piece to be unveiled on 1st December will be at Vintage Bird in The High Street, Hastings.
