Hastings Creatives Relaunch!
Hastings Creatives launched a new website and email list on Wednesday 9 May with a celebration event at Hastings Arts Forum. Reviewed by Caf Fean
Formed in 2002, the online networking group connects creative people and businesses across Hastings and the surrounding area with one another. Erica Smith of Wordsmith Design set the group up when she found that there were so many wonderful people living and working in Hastings doing incredible things, who didn’t seem to know one another.
What started as eight people talking about 5-a-side football, parties and happenings, has grown to a membership of almost 1000. With the arrival of Facebook, many of the more informal topics discussed have found a new home. Conversations in the group now centre around creative practice: exhibitions, workshops, studio space needed, debates about creativity in the town, big environmental changes, events and much more are signposted between members.
Hastings Borough Council kindly funded a redesign of hastingscreatives.co.uk which helped Erica and her team to create a new Directory facility, so that people can find one another more easily, and serves to showcase the rich creative talent in the town to a wider audience. If you are a member of Hastings Creatives on the old yahoo chat group, you have until 1 June to transfer over before the group is retired. New members are welcome: it is currently free of charge and it’s a fantastic way to connect with other creative professionals.
• Please visit hastingscreatives.co.uk to sign up to the Directory. You can post up to three images of your work. To become a part of the email list, please visit hastingscreatives.groups.io
We hope you have enjoyed reading this article from Hastings Independent. The future of this volunteer led, non-profit publication would be far more secure with the aid of a small donation. It only takes a minute and we would be very grateful.
